The new AV/AC Salerno – Reggio Calabria line: work progresses on the Battipaglia – Romagnano section (Lot 1A)
The new high-speed/high-capacity railway line Salerno – Reggio Calabria is a project that promises to transform mobility in Southern Italy, shortening distances and improving connections between cities.
A modern infrastructure that will not only enhance train speeds (up to 300 km/h) but will also have a positive impact on the development of the region.
The Battipaglia – Romagnano section – 35 kilometers long – represents the beating heart of this project.
A journey that primarily takes place underground: a total of 18 km of underground track, with both natural and artificial tunnels, and the use of advanced technologies such as 4 TBMs (Tunnel Boring Machines) to excavate the tunnels.
Accompanying this monumental work are 19 viaducts and a crucial interchange junction for the connection with the existing line.
But our contribution concerns an aspect that is often not visible to everyone, yet is crucial for the success of the project.
STM is indeed responsible for the construction of the conveyor belt system, ensuring a continuous and safe flow of materials within the construction site.
We started in 2024 with the installation of 8 conveyor belts, designed to optimize time and facilitate operations during the construction of the project.
The new AV/AC line is a big change for rail transport in the South, and the Battipaglia – Romagnano section is just the start of a future where Southern Italy will be connected to the rest of the country faster than ever before.
