A new milestone has been reached in the Rogun Dam Project with the first concrete pour of core dam. STM has successfully supplied an important belt conveyor system for the materials handling.

The Rogun Dam project is located in Tajikistan, in the upper reaches of the Vakhsh River in the Pamir Mountains west of the Himalayas at 90km from the capital city of Dushanbe.

Rogun will be the highest dam in the world with a dam crest at 1,300 metres above sea level, breaking the record held by the Nurek Dam, also in Tajikistan. At 335 metres, Rogun will also be the tallest dam in the world.

Once the six turbines have been installed and the project completed, Rogun will have a total installed capacity of 3,600 MW (the equivalent of three nuclear power plants), making it the most powerful hydroelectric station in Central Asia.

STM supplied an important conveyor system for handling all the excavated and crushed material from the different areas of the job site, following the several phases of construction. the total length of conveyor line is over 7km and it has a slope range of +10° -8°, and a max capacity of 3.000 t/h.

The whole volume of materials carried is around 32.000.000 m3. Part of the project were also several tunneling conveyors.

Some photos of the project are available in the “Rogun Dam” project sheet.
